What to expect

This is a 6 session course spread over 6 Friday mornings in which you will be guided through the construction of a beautiful pair of bespoke pyjamas. Each lesson will be structured towards this end goal. We will be using the Merchant and Mills Winnie PJs pattern. This includes options for different lengths of sleeves and bottoms and an option to pipe.

By the end of this course you will be be confident not only in garment construction, but also in doing buttons, button holes, facings and piping.

This course is suitable for ambitious beginners and beyond.

What to bring?

You will be given guidance about what fabrics to choose on booking the course and how much you will need. The pattern will be provided and details about this will be sent out when you book the course. You may wish to bring a notepad and pen.

Overview

Lesson 1 : Measuring your body and cutting out your pattern

Key skills:
• Measuring up and cutting out pattern pieces (there are lots for this pattern).
• Pattern matching where appropriate
• Interfacing

Lesson 2: PJ bottoms

Key skills:
• Matching notches and sewing seams
• Applying piping
• Applying facing.

Lesson 3: Finishing bottoms

Key skills:
• Attaching waistband
• Making waist tie
• Fitting waist with elastic
• Threading and finishing waist-tie
• Neatening all finishes

Lesson 4: Constructing the top 1

Key skills:
• Piping and applying the pocket.
• Joining back and front pieces
• Piping collar and attaching
• Piping the front

Lesson 5 : Constructing the top 2

Key skills:
• Setting the sleeves
• Attaching all facings
• Completing side seams
• Finishing seams

Lesson 6 : Constructing the top 3

Key skills:
• Completing all seams and finishes
• Inserting buttonholes down the front placket
• Attaching buttons.
• Troubleshooting and showing off!
