If you learn to make one garment this summer, let it be a woven tank. Seen all over the high street, this simple make is a great scrap buster and comes together quite quickly. Perfect for the hot weather and once you have made one, I guarantee, you’ll want to sew up more.

What to expect

We will be using the Ashton Top pattern from Helen’s Closet. This gives you the option to choose between two lengths and to use facing or to make and use a bias edge. You will be guided through the process of putting in darts and finishing the neck line, arm holes and hem in your chosen method. Worried about what size to make? You will be guided through this and can choose between different bust fittings.

Key skills

  • Choosing your size and cutting out your pattern, making adjustments if necessary.
  • Inserting darts accurately and getting a clean finish.
  • Constructing the garment using seam allowances and finishes

You then have a choice between:

  • Learning how to make your own bias binding and finishing edges using it
  • Adding a facing using the burrito method

What’s included

Expert tuition, the use of lovely sewing machines and overlockers, your own copy of the sewing pattern, a supportive environment, drinks and snacks to keep you going.

What to bring:

You will need to bring your own choice of fabric and thread. Details will be sent out on booking the course.
