What to expect

In this workshop you will learn how to alter the length of garments and go home equipped with the skills to tackle all your shortening needs and never need to pay someone to do it for you again.

WARNING: Friends and family may find out about your new skills and you may find yourself inundated with shortening requests!

You will be taken through how to measure, cut and finish hems to fit on different garments with and without a sewing machine. We shall look at different types of hem including rolled hems, blind hems and jeans hems. We will also look at how to alter the hems on stretch fabrics (like jersey). Depending on time and the variety of garments people bring in, you should be able to take home examples of different types of hems. You will also be given hand outs to refer to at home.

What to bring?

Bring along a garment you would like to alter the hem on, and you can take it away done! Please let me know in advance what you are bringing so I can ensure we have the correct threads etc available. (There may not be time to tackle a large circle skirt or similar, but it can still be brought along and we can get the project underway).

If you would rather learn alone at your own pace or if you wish to have help learning how to alter on your own sewing machine then a one-to-one lesson can be booked
